AFTER three days of limited sleep and intensive hacking, Lightweave came out on top of the competition at Brisbane’s first VR Hackathon. The VR Hackathon focused on bringing together the brightest minds interested in virtual reality and related technologies in Brisbane, aimed to develop innovative hardware and software solutions, have fun, and build out the future of immersive technology over the span of the weekend. Now a global community, VR hackathons are organized the Web3D Consortium. The VR hackathon was co-organized by CSIRO Data61 and Brisbane ACM SIGGRAPH Chapter, and also co-located with the Web3D 2017 Conference.
The multi-day hackathon, held at Brisbane’s infamous Powerhouse, took place over the weekend of the 2-4th of June, and saw the involvement of over a hundred participants. Teams competed for the titles of Best VR Experience, Best WebVR Experience, Best use of X3D/X3DOM, Best Artistic Experience, Best Audio Experience and Accessibility Award.
Lightweave took out the top prize of Best VR Experience, winning themselves thousands of dollars worth of VR-related prizes.
